10 Things to Know about Pyramids

 1. If you broke the Great pyramid into slabs 30 cm thick you could build up a wall 1 metre high that would stretch all the way around France! If you had a little more time you could cut it into rods about 6cm 2 - join them together and it would be enough to reach a quarter of the way to the moon!

2. Some people have said that the pyramids are more than simply large graves; they were granaries or treasure houses.

3. All of the pyramids were probably robbed of their treasures within a couple of hundred years of the burials. The only tombs to escape until modern times were those dug into rock, not placed in pyramids. They belonged to Tutankhamun and Queen Heterpheres.

WORLD TALLEST BUILDING - SKY CITY

China, which seems to complete greatest infrastructure projects on a routine basis, is going to claim the tallest skyscraper in the world with the new project. Chinese Company Broad Sustainable Building (BSB), announced plans to build the world’s tallest skyscraper in an unbelievable 90 days. Now the build time for the 838-meter-tall tower has been pushed back to more reasonable (if still incredibly speedy) 210 days. Sky City is set to shatter the current record for loftiest building held by the 828-meter-tall Burj Khalifa in downtown Dubai.

Hypogeum, the Underground Temple in Malta

Hypogeum means “underground” in Greek and is located in Paola, Malta. The structure is 4500-5000 years old, built during the Saflieni period of the Maltese history between 3000 to 2500 BC. It is considered it was a necropolis in prehistoric times and it is the only discovered prehistoric underground temple in the world. It was discovered by accident in 1902 when workers cutting cisterns for a new housing development broke through its roof. The study of the structure was started by Father Manuel Magri of the Society of Jesus, but he suddenly died in 1907, before the publication of the report. Following Magri‘s death, excavation was continued by Sir Temi Zammit.
Hypogeum Plan

The underground temple has three levels. The first level is very similar to tombs found in Xemxija in Malta. Some rooms are natural caves which were later artificially extended.  This level is only ten metres below the street level.

WITHIN ONE MONTH TWO STOREY BUILDING AT VERY LOW COST..

GLASS FIBRE REINFORCEMENT GYPSUM (GFRG) PANAL

-- High speed of construction: GFRG demo building with four flats in two storeys (total 1981 sq. ft.) built within a month!
-- Less built-up area for the same carpet area: wall panels are only 124mm thick.
-- Less embodied energy and carbon footprint: significant reduction in use of cement, sand, steel and water; recycling of industrial waste gypsum.
-- Lower cost of structure: savings in materials; no plastering.
-- Lower building weight (panels weigh only 43 kg/m2), contributing to savings in foundation and reduction in design for earthquake forces, particularly in multi-storeyed construction.
-- Buildings up to 8-10 storeys can be designed using this load-bearing system, without the need for beams and columns.
-- Excellent finishes of prefabricated GFRG panels – used for all the walls, floors and staircases, with minimal embedded concrete: no need for additional plastering.
Researchers in the Civil Engineering Department of the Indian Institute of Technology Madras (IIT M) have developed a method of design and construction to make use of Glass Fibre Reinforced Gypsum (GFRG) panels to build rapid, cost-effective mass housing. To showcase this technology, a ‘model housing apartment’ comprising four flats in a two-storeyed building, has been constructed inside the IIT-M campus. The ‘GFRG demo building’, constructed in just a month, was inaugurated today by Sri TKA Nair, Advisor to Honourable Prime Minister of India, in the presence of Prof. Bhaskar Ramamurthi, Director, IIT Madras.

Naptune

Neptune — the blue coloured eighth planet of the solar system, will this year complete its first revolution of the sun since its discovery in 1846. The heavenly body will celebrate its birthday on July 13 at 03:06 IST when it reaches approximately the same heliocentric longitude 329degrees.1020 as at the time of its discovery, R.C. Kapoor of the Indian Institute of Astro Physics said. To watch the planet, see Capricornus and Aquarius constellations between the stars Delta Capricorni and Lambda Aquari to be precise, he said, adding, one needs a moderate sized telescope to view it. Neptune will be in opposition on August 22, 2011, which means it will rise around when the sun sets in the west and shall be up all night, he said. Neptune is also the first planet found by mathematical prediction rather than by observation, C.B. Devgun of SPACE said. Unexplained deviations in the orbit of the planet Uranus, ever since its accidental discovery on March 13, 1781 by William Herschel, led astronomers to believe that there was some unknown body farther out. John Adams and Urbain Le Verrier carried out independent analysis of discrepancies in the observed and calculated positions of Uranus and predicted in 1845 the mass and orbit of the perturbing body. The planet was discovered on September 23, 1846 by Johann Galle and Heinrich d’Arrest from Berlin Observatory very near the predicted position, Devgun said. Neptune has 13 satellites, and a thin ring system that was discovered in 1984. The planet’s orbit is nearly circular. It’s atmosphere is dominantly hydrogen (80 per cent), with helium (19 per cent) and methane (1 per cent), and a very small admixture of other compounds. The average temperature is — 235degreesC. It is 38.87 times bigger and 17.132 times more massive than the Earth.

Solar Canals

Close on heels of commencing use of wastelands in northern districts and rooftops in towns and cities, Gujarat is set to potentially use the existing 19,000 km-long network of Narmada canals across the State for setting up solar panels to generate power. The Chief Minister, Mr Narendra Modi, will inaugurate the first of a series of this project, known as Canal Solar Power Project, when he launches a 1 megawatt (mw) pilot project, which is already commissioned, on Narmada branch canal near Chandrasan village of Kadi taluka in Mehsana district. He inaugurated a 600-MW solar power project spread across 11 districts. This included a 214MW Solar Power Park, the largest such generation centre at a single location in Asia. Also, Azure Power, leading independent power producer in solar sector, announced a 2.5 MW rooftops project in Gandhinagar.Gujarat, which invests nearly Rs 2,000 crore an year on renewable energy, has attracted investments of Rs 9,000 crore so far on solar energy projects.
The pilot project has been developed on a 750-m stretch of the canal by Gujarat State Electricity Corporation (GSECL) with support from Sardar Sarovar Narmada Nigam Ltd (SSNNL), which owns and maintains the canal network.
Energy, water security The pilot project will generate 16 lakh units of clean energy per annum and also prevent evaporation of 90 lakh litres of water annually from the canal. The concept will, therefore, tackle two of the challenges simultaneously by providing energy and water security. The cost of per megawatt of solar power, in this case, is likely to be much less than the estimated Rs 10-11 crore, as the two banks of the canal will be used to cover the canal by installing solar power panel and the government will not have to spend much on creating basic infrastructure, including land acquisition .Today, Gujarat has about 458 km of open Main Canal, while the total canal length, including sub-branches, is about 19,000 km at present.
When completed, the SSNNL's canal network will be about 85,000 km long.Assuming a utilisation of only 10 per cent of the existing canal network of 19,000 km, it is estimated that 2,200 MW of solar power generating capacity can be installed by covering the canals with solar panels. This also implies that 11,000 acres of land can be potentially conserved along with about 2,000 crore litres of water saved per annum.

Biggest Hole in the World

This ginormous hole seems like a scene from some bad"End of World Movie".But in realty it's a diamond mine in Mirna,Siberia. It measures 525m deep and 1.25 km in diameter, making it the biggegt man-made hole in the world.
