MMC vs. SD card

MultiMediaCard (MMC) is a flash memory card standard. Typically, an MMC is used as storage media for a portable device, in a form that can easily be removed for access by a PC.

Secure Digital (SD) is a flash
(non-volatile) memory card format and is used for storage. MMC and SD cards differ in their physical size, capacity and their usage.

Both come in different memory sizes as well. While MMCs can be used in a standard SD card slot, the latter cannot be used in a MMC slot.

The Multi Media Card (MMC) is a flash memory card standard.
The Secure Digital (SD) Card is a flash memory card format.

MMC was developed by Siemens AG and SanDisk, and introduced in 1997.
SD Card was developed by Matsushita, SanDisk and Toshiba in 1999.

MMC are normally used as storage media for portable devices, such as digital cameras, cellular phones, digital audio players and PDAs.
SD card is used as a storage media in the following: Sony PS 3, Wii, GP2X GNU/Linux based portable games console, DAB radios, Global Positioning System receivers,Camcorders, cellular phones, digital audio players, PDAs etc.

The size of a standard MMC card is 24 mm x 32 mm x 1.4 mm while that of a SD card is 24 mm × 32 mm × 2.1 mm. So from the size comparison, we can see that SD cards are much thicker than the MMC cards, 2.1 mm against 1.4 mm.

SD cards are normally available in two more versions. They are miniSD and microSD. MicroSD is the smallest memory card available commercially. The size is 15mm × 11mm × 0.7mm. It is about 25% of the size of an SD card. With the help of adapters it can be used in those devices which are meant for SD, miniSD, or Memory Stick Duo cards; but they are not universally compatible.

JEWELER APPLIES 24kt GOLD,PLATINUM TREATMENT TO NEW iPHONE MODLES..

Premium jeweler and goldsmith Gold & Co has launched the world's first 24kt gold, rose gold and platinum iPhone 5S handsets that could cost less than what some ordinary new iPhone 5S units are currently changing hands for on internet auction sites.

Good things come to those that wait -- that may be the lesson to draw from the case of one consumer who earlier this week bid $10,100 on a standard, run-of-the-mill, unlocked iPhone 5S. Because although the handset the anonymous auction winner bought was indeed gold in color and therefore rare – Apple failed to predict how popular the gold version of its new handset would be and so initial production runs have been very low – it wasn’t actually made of gold.

But just a day after the sale had been reported across the world’s media, Gold & Co announced the availability of real 24kt gold, rose gold and platinum iPhone 5S handsets. Set for their official public unveiling on September 27 at the World Luxury Expo at Emirates Palace Abu Dhabi, the site where 12 months ago the company revealed its similarly gold iPhone 5 handsets, the devices are strictly limited in number (only 250 of each will be produced, unlike the 9 million and counting that Apple has already sold) and will come with an equally exclusive display case.

And the price? A steal at just $5000 for a standard 24kt gold finish, $5300 for the rose gold, and $5550 for the the platinum, any of which, when compared to current bids flying around on eBay for standard not-really-gold iPhone 5S handsets, seem like a bargain.

TDMA - Time Division Multiple Access

Time division multiple access (TDMA) is a channel access method for shared medium networks. It allows several users to share the same frequency channel by dividing the signal into different time slots. The users transmit in rapid succession, one after the other, each using its own time slot. This allows multiple stations to share the same transmission medium (e.g. radio frequency channel) while using only a part of its channel capacity. TDMA is used in the digital 2G cellular systems such as Global System for Mobile Communications (GSM), IS-136, Personal Digital Cellular (PDC) and iDEN, and in the Digital Enhanced Cordless Telecommunications (DECT) standard for portable phones. It is also used extensively in satellite systems, combat-net radio systems, and PON networks for upstream traffic from premises to the operator.

CDMA- Code Division Multiple Access

Stands for "Code Division Multiple Access." CDMA is a wireless transmission technology that was developed during World War II by the English allies to avoid having their transmissions jammed. After the war ended, Qualcomm patented the technology and made it commercially available as a digital cellular technology. Now CDMA is a popular communications method used by many cell phone companies.

Unlike the GSM and TDMA technologies, CDMA transmits over the entire frequency range available. It does not assign a specific frequency to each user on the communications network. This method, called multiplexing, is what made the transmissions difficult to jam during World War II. Because CDMA does not limit each user's frequency range, there is more bandwidth available. This allows more users to communicate on the same network at one time than if each user was allotted a specific frequency range.

Because CDMA is a digital technology, analog audio signals must be digitized before being transmitted on the network. CDMA is used by 2G and 3G wireless communications and typically operates in the frequency range of 800 MHz to 1.9 GHz.  ( CDMA )

NANOTEGHNOLOGY IN HIGHWAY

Nanotechnology is a recently developed, major enabling tool, already well-established in several sectors of applied science, technology and engineering. Development of nanotechnology has lead to advanced characterization, prediction and control of properties of materials at sub-micron level. Nanotechnology has enhanced the understanding of ‘origins’ of key properties of everyday materials and structures; of manufacturing processes and interactions between materials, structures, external elements and internal components. Experiences in developed countries have proved that the possible benefits of nanotechnology in the transportation sector are manifold. In addition, much more effective uses of basic resources and development of environmentally sustainable production processes are predicted. Its potential for development is such that nanotechnology is often being considered as the Industrial Revolution of the 21st century.

SECURE DIGITAL CARD - [SD card]

Secure Digital Input/Output (SDIO) is an important standard for devices that feature interchangeable memory options. In today's exploding world of portable electronics devices, that's a large number indeed.

Memory is stored on various forms of devices. Portable and non-portable devices store information on both internal hard drives and external hard drives. External hard drives have varying degrees of portability, mostly due to the size of the drives.

One way to store memory is on a smaller hard drive. These come in a few shapes and sizes. One is called a Memory Stick. Another is called a Secure Digital (SD) card. This is where SDIO comes in.

GLOBAL SYSTEM FOR MOBILE COMMUNICATIONS

GSM, or Global System for Mobile Communications, is a cellular phone protocol that is standard in most parts of the world. Technology experts created the protocol in the 1980s and '90s to standardize cellular phone service between countries in Europe. GSM phones use subscriber identity module (SIM) cards, which is essential to their function and enable the user to change phones easily. It is a chief competitor to the Code Division Multiple Access (CDMA) protocol.

Technology

Technically, the term GSM refers to second-generation (2G) voice networks that operate based on a combination of time division multiple access (TDMA) and frequency division multiple access (FDMA). TDMA takes the frequency channel the phone uses and divides it into individual bits of time that are assigned to each user. FDMA divides the frequency band into sections and assigns one to each cell phone tower. Towers are typically spread far enough apart so that those using the same frequency do not overlap their areas of coverage.
